Skip Barber National at Lime Rock Park preview

< Back 10/07/2009

Wednesday, October 07, 2009 Lakeville, Conn. (Oct. 7) Even though San Clemente, Calif. driver Connor De Phillippi has virtually wrapped up the 2009 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National title, he still has something to race for this weekend at legendary Lime Rock Park.

By simply starting Race 1 on Friday, De Phillippi will clinch the championship. The only driver with a mathematic chance of overhauling De Phillippi for the title is Court Vernon; the Key Biscayne, Fla. driver needing a pair of wins from pole and for De Phillippi to not start either race. If De Phillippi can win both races this weekend, he will surpass 2005 National Champion Gerardo Bonilla for all-time Skip Barber National wins with 9, having already passed 2002 champ Grant Maiman for the single-season win record earlier this year at Road America with 7.

MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development drivers look to solidify their places in the final standings this weekend, with Vernon in second place, latest race winner Sage Karam in third and Dennis Trebing in fourth.

Race 1 is scheduled to take the green flag Friday afternoon with Race 2 set to run Saturday morning. Watch skipbarber.com for results and the weekend wrap-up.
