Group 1 was all Scott Anderson. Starting from pole on Race 1, Anderson went on to post a comfortable 10-second victory over chasing doctors Mike Edwards and Harsha Sen, with Jay Fuchs and Dr. Jim Norman rounding out the top five. Anderson did the trick again in Race 2, with a slightly less (but still comfy) 8-second victory over Harsha Sen and Luigi Biangardi, while Dr. Mike and Scott Hoo recorded top five finishes.

Brian Freiberg defended is point lead in the MAZDASPEED Challenge Winter Tour, starting fifth and winning by .358 sec. over James Lustman. Tyler Wolfson came home third ahead of Tyler Cooke and Michael Cooper. The top five in Race 1 was covered by just over a second. In Race 2 Freiberg held off charging drivers David Levine and John Snyder, along with Tyler Wolfson and Dan Moen to complete the weekend sweep and defend his point lead.

Group 3 saw the continuation of the three-way battle for the Southern Race Series championship between Ashley Freiberg, Dennis Trebing and Trent Hindman. Freiberg won the first battle, picking up the win over Trebing while Hindman came home third ahead of Paul Fisk and Dom Bastien. Hindman’s championship hopes took a bit of a hit in Race 2 when the collected the spinning car of Paul Fisk in Turn 3 on the opening lap. Hindman retired with damage and was credited with 11th. Out front Ashley Freiberg went two-for-two, this time by the much smaller margin of 1.194 sec’s over her championship rival Trebing. Dr. Mike finished in third ahead of Tristan Nunez and Dom Bastien

The second MAZDASPEED Challenge group saw Tyler Cooke pick up his first win in Race 1, with a nearly six second victory over Matthew Di Leo, with Evan O’Connor and Steve Randall rounding out the top five. Cooke backed up his victory with a second win to sweep Group 4, holding off John Snyder by just over a second. Matthew Di Leo scored a third to go with his earlier second followed by Steve Randall and Evan O’Connor.

Karting Scholarship Shoot-out winner Spencer Pigot got the most out of his final tune-up prior to the 2010 Skip Barber National opener by scoring a pair of wins in Group 5. Pigot battled Kevin Tittle for the win in both races, besting him by .498 seconds and 4.96 seconds respectively. —

With a pair of wins head-to-head over her main competitor in the standings, Ashley Freiberg extended her point over Dennis Trebing from two to eight. Trent Hindman holds onto third place with a comfortable 30 point advantage over Tristan Nunez with Grand Master Jim Norman, who picked up a pair of thirds and a fifth during the weekend, fifth in the overall rankings. Despite matching his sister win-for-win in the Mazda MX-5’s, Brian Freiberg’s lead in the MAZDASPEED Challenge Winter Tour points shrinks to six over second place (and Master’s Division point leader) John Snyder. Tyler Wolfson holds onto third place before David Levine with David Steinschraber fifth overall and second in Master’s.

The Southern Race Series and MAZDASPEED Challenge Winter Tour head west to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for a triple-header with the Western Race Series the weekend of March 13-14.
