If you have the dream, but no experience, then the Skip Barber Racing Academy may be the best pathway to a career in motorsports. This is where professional racing dreams can be realized.
Designed for the person with the desire, but no racing experience. This elite academy provides access to the same training, coaching and track time that the pros have had. It is a process that can’t be duplicated by any other racing school.
2015 Date: TBA
The winner of the shootout competition will receive a scholarship toward the Skip Barber Regional Race Series with the opportunity to climb the Mazda Road to Indy ladder to the VERIZON IndyCar Series. Applicants for the Academy must graduate from a three-day Skip Barber Formula Car Racing School. The application can be submitted prior to attending the School.
The inaugural field included students, U.S. military personnel, salesmen, doctors and 2012 Olympic swimming gold medal winner Tyler Clary. He participated in the Skip Barber Formula Car Racing School after visiting IZOD IndyCar Series races last summer.

How does the Skip Barber Racing Academy Shootout work?
The Shootout is limited to 33 participants. All accepted entrants must meet the requirements above. All Shootout sessions are conducted in equally prepared Formula Skip Barber race cars, set up as they are used in our Race Series and racing schools. Preparation is vital, so entrants are allowed to enroll in Skip Barber Racing School Advanced Activities programs prior to the Shootout, but can only participate in a maximum of 6 additional days to remain eligible for this event. Driver preparation and sponsor relations training are also including during the event. During the three days, drivers are evaluated for not only their on-track speed and consistency but also how they receive and apply feedback and perform off-track. Even if you don’t win a scholarship, you will come away from the Academy with an incredibly valuable experience. You’ll learn what it really takes to be fast in a race car.
“Skip Barber Racing School is committed to continuing to be the launching pad for many of the world’s top drivers and the Skip Barber Racing Academy is another tremendous opportunity to discover those drivers who will be the next generation of the best of the best,” said Michael Culver, CEO, Skip Barber Racing School.
Individuals interested in the next Skip Barber Racing Academy can call 800-221-1131 for information. The 33 finalists are selected from the pool of applicants who have taken the above mentioned qualifying racing schools: Grand Prize for the shootout is a full season in Skip Barber Summer Race Series presented by Mazda.
Qualifying for the next Skip Barber Racing School Academy is simple: the finalists have to graduate from one Skip Barber 3-Day Formula Car Racing School and an Advanced 2-Day Racing School in 2014 and apply (see the application).
