New: Skip Barber ‘MAZDASPEED OctoberFest’ at Carolina Motorsports Park!
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
LAKEVILLE, Conn. – The popularity of this year’s inaugural Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge series tells us you want more, so we’ve added a stand-alone event at a really terrific southern venue: Carolina Motorsports Park, October 24-26. CMP is a bit more than an hour south of Charlotte, N.C.
This ”MAZDASPEED OctoberFest” Race Weekend is a culmination of a full week of Mazda MX-5 on-track programs: Three Day School on Mon./Tues./Wed., followed by Thursday Lapping, then another Three Day School beginning on Friday. Also on Friday begins the Practice and Race Weekend for the ”MAZDASPEED OctoberFest.”
Newly constructed in 1999 on the site of a World War II fighter-training base, and located about four miles south of Kershaw, S.C., Carolina Motorsports Park is a terrific track to race on; modern, lots of run-off, really good passing zones – and free wireless internet. The full course is a 14-turn, 2.279-mile layout and has two long straights, one that begins after a second-gear righthander, the other from a third-gear triple-apexer. Scott Speed won a race here in 2002 when he was racing in the Skip Barber National.
The Three Days and the Race Weekend are sure to be popular, so if you’re interested in either the Schools or the Race Weekend – or both! — give a School & Series Advisor a call (800.221.1131) as soon as you are able.
