< Back 06/30/2008

Monday, June 30, 2008 LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Building on the roaring success of the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge races at Lime Rock Park over the Memorial Day weekend, Skip Barber Racing is raising the ante: We’ve arranged for another [non-points] MAZDASPEED Challenge race, but this time at Lime Rock’s biggest spectator event, the NASCAR Camping World Series-East Mohegan Sun 200, August 15 – 16.

Exciting news: There’ll be a MAZDASPEED Challenge ”Enduro” race during the NASCAR weekend at Lime Rock Park. First come, first served!

Even more exciting, this will be an ”Enduro” event: 12 teams comprised of one car and two drivers, in a 1-hour timed event in front of a big crowd!

Many regular Skip Barber Race Series competitors are familiar with the special ”enduro-style” Memorial races that we’ve organized from time to time over the years – a popular format that involves two or more drivers sharing one open-wheel Skip Barber F2000 car in 1-hour races. By adding the element of a driver change, these Memorial Enduros are huge fun and a really unique challenge.

And now we’re bringing that excitement to the MAZDASPEED MX-5 Miata race cars.

Each two-driver team will get a 50-minute practice session Friday morning, then a 25-minute qualifier in the afternoon. The green flag drops on the 60-minute MAZDASPEED Challenge One-Hour Enduro Saturday afternoon.

The team drivers can split practice and qualifying track time any way they wish, but prior to the qualifying session, one of the two drivers has to be designated as the starting driver for the race and only his or her lap times count toward grid order. (This format is similar to the qualifying rules for the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series.) In the race, each driver must do a minimum of 20 minutes in the car in order to be ”legal.”

The cost is $4,999 per car ($2,500 per driver).

If you don’t have a teammate, that’s OK – we’ll pair you up with another single (or, by paying the full $4,999, you can choose to have an SBRS instructor as your co-driver).

We have to limit the field to 12 teams, so call your School & Series Advisor as soon as possible to reserve your seat!
