Part art, part science, driving a race car is about feel, focus and anticipation. Your racing journey begins at one of America’s premier racetracks, following the same course curriculum used to train Nextel Cup Champion Jeff Gordon and Champ Car World Series Champion Michael Andretti.
A valid driver's license is required (exceptions may be granted for those with karting or other competition experience). Drivers must be comfortable operating a manual transmission and certain height and weight restrictions apply. Drivers under 18 must have parental consent.

race car. Can’t decide? Now you don’t have to. Sample both cars in a full day
of activities. Experience 60 minutes of on-track action each in the open-wheel
Formula Skip Barber and the Mazda Miata based MX-5 Cup race cars.
Students master the fundamentals in classroom and driving sessions in the Formula Skip Barber, a full-out race car with braking and cornering capabilities that vastly exceed any street or sports car.
Starts with a classroom session; an introduction to the cars, discussion of the track and agenda for the program. An intense series of exercises follow, including practicing car control skills on the autocross and more downshift work. The day concludes with full-track lapping and lead/follow sessions.
Emphasizes track time in a series of lapping sessions at higher speeds. The Formula Skip Barber sessions are coupled with track time in MAZDA3s; your instructor rides “right seat” to help reinforce your learning the racing line. The afternoon concludes with learning advanced techniques such as “trail-brake rotation.” Instructors consistently monitor all on-track action and give you direct feedback during and after the sessions.
Includes classroom instruction in drafting, passing and racing in the rain, but the majority of the day is spent lapping at speed. Part of the day includes being gridded in race formation behind a pace car, which peels off as you practice starts and re-starts.
This is where you safely learn how to "rotate" a car – critical to a fast lap, as you point to the apex and make mid-corner adjustments. Getting comfortable with balancing a vehicle in a "drift" is important. You drive a mix of Skip Barber Racing vehicles: Formula Skip Barber, Mazda RX-8 and MAZDA3. Unlock your potential in a safe, controlled environment.
