"Good driving" is not about reflexes, instinct or adrenaline. The real secret is trained response. The Skip Barber Mazda Driving School is where smart drivers bring themselves, as well as their teenagers, to learn and then practice life-saving skills needed on our roads and highways. At the Skip Barber Mazda Driving School, we teach essential emergency braking, skid and slide control, proper cornering techniques and a variety of other car-control skills. We raise your awareness of all the elements that together constitute good driving. This comes from understanding vehicle dynamics, then practicing the skills we teach you, in a safe and extremely fun environment. You'll have the time of your life – and learn the skills that can save it.
Driver’s Ed teaches you the rules of the road, but it can only go so far. Get your life on the road off on the right foot by learning the driving techniques critical to true defensive driving, including:
- emergency braking and emergency lane changes
- car control skills practiced on the autocross and skid pad
- standard transmission operation
- enhanced street awareness & road etiquette
- parallel parking and reversing
Our professional driving instructors will teach you the foundations of safe, fun motoring, including:
- understanding vehicle dynamics & behavior
- slides & recoveries
- threshold ("panic") braking
- lane-toss exercises & accident avoidance
- applying your new-found skills in the Mazda RX-8, MX-5 & MAZDA3s
- Mazda driving school graduates are immediately eligible to enroll in the Advanced Car Control program, a Skip Barber Racing School advanced activity.
Pick up where the One Day Driving School leaves off; more practice time, more and different skills -- including "racing" skills that make you a better, safer "street" driver:
- heel-and-toe downshifting
- emergency lane changes
- additional street awareness training
- etiquette & road manners
Two Day Driving School graduates are immediately eligible to enroll in the Advanced Car Control program (see below).
The “Combo” is so affordable and so much fun; no wonder it’s one of our most popular schools! It combines the most exciting elements of either the Formula Car Racing School or the MAZDASPEED Racing School with the Mazda Driving School. Skid pad, autocross, high speed ‘‘threshold’’ braking, lapping the race track – you experience it all!
One Day Racing/Driving Combo graduates are immediately eligible to enroll in the Advanced Car Control program (see below).
Advanced Activities
Take your driving to the next level. Advanced activities reinforce the skills learned in the Two Day Driving School and better prepare you for track days… or the road.
Getting comfortable with the “seat in the pants” feeling of rotating a car is key to both quick lap times and being a more confident driver. The advanced handling techniques taught in the Advanced Car Control program will boost your performance when you take to the track. The Advanced Car Control program is available at: Lime Rock Park, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Road America, Road Atlanta and Sebring International Raceway.
