2014 Skip Barber Racing School Summer Series – Mid-Ohio Recap

Braselton, GA. (June 24, 2014) – It was an exciting weekend at Mid-Ohio for Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2014 Skip Barber Summer Series! Racers of the Skip Barber Formula and MAZDASPEED Challenge took to Lexington, Ohio for a weekend filled with competition and comraderie.
In Group 1, Skip Barber Racing School IndyCar Academy scholarship winner Michai Stevens displayed his growth as a driver by placing first in both races. Michai Stephens, 22, from Evanston, Ill., battled against tough competition including Nikita Lastochkin who took 2nd place in the second race and Jackie Ding who took 2nd in the first race. Veteran racer and Grand Master, Jeffrey Stern fought hard against the young group but fell short of the podium by one spot.
In Group 2, two-time Skip Barber Championship Shootout runner-up and current USF2000 racer, Jake Eidson returned to Skip Barber and tested his talent with sports cars. Eidson did not disappoint. Eidson took first in both races. Master’s racer Brad Roudebush battled hard against Eidson in the first race and took home the 2nd place spot. In the second race, DJ Randall and Mac Korince rounded out the podium with a second and third place finish.
In the Master’s Group, veteran racers also put on a fantastic showing at Mid-Ohio.  The masters group is designated to racers aged 40 and older. Grand Master John Schauerman displayed his experience grabbing an exciting win in Race 1 beating out Jeffrey Stern and Pat Daly. In Race 2 of the Master’s Group, veteran racer Gus Doppes took home the top spot beating Grand Master’s Bill Shields and Chris Bassard. Bassard battled hard in the race where he started in seventh at the beginning of the session but managed to maneuver himself in the group to move up to third.
In Group 4, Karts to Scholarship Champion Luke Gabin continued his winning streak taking home first in Race 1. He was followed by Nikita Lastochkin and Jackie Ding who took home second and third. In Race 2, past Skip Barber racer and current F1600 championship contender Jack Mitchell Jr. took home the coveted top spot followed by Jake Eidson and Luke Gabin.
