2009 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda – Sebring Preview
Tuesday, March 17, 2009 SEBRING, Fla. (Mar. 17) – Final preparations are under way for the opening rounds of the 12-race, $350,000 2009 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda, being held in support of the 57th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring. 24 drivers representing seven countries will take to the historic 3.7-mile, 17-turn Sebring International Raceway in central Florida for the first time when Practice opens Wednesday morning, March 18.
The BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda is a 12-race professional open-wheel racing series which award its champion a fully funded seat in the following year’s Star Mazda Championship, a value of more than $350,000. The Skip Barber National is part of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Open-wheel Ladder System, whose goal is to develop young aspiring race car drivers from karting and club racing, through the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda, the Star Mazda Championship and ultimately to The Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda. 2008 Skip Barber National Champion Conor Daly will make his first start in the Star Mazda Championship this weekend at Sebring International Raceway, joining 2007 Skip Barber National Champion Joel Miller and several Skip Barber Racing School and Race Series alumni in that field. Past drivers in the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda include IndyCar drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay, Raphael Matos and Marco Andretti, 2008 Star Mazda Champion John Edwards, and 2008 Formula BMW Americas Champion Alexander Rossi.
